Abstract Nowadays, despite the implementation of new wind farms in Brazil, it still is difficult to form partnerships with companies in the sector, which significantly contributes to the gap in information provided by national literature and the lack of knowledge about the mechanical behavior of wind turbines subjected to transient wind effects. Therefore, through a Research and Development Project to optimize and improve modeling in wind systems, the Brazilian electric power company Eletrobras Furnas aims to facilitate the construction of smaller wind turbines to supply energy to regions far from the Brazilian coast that do not have high generation potential due to the incidence of low-speed winds. Two relevant aspects directly linked to the performance of this kind of structures are: (i) determining their natural frequency and (ii) ensuring that this frequency does not coincide with any external vibration frequency that the structure may experience in its lifetime. Wind turbines are complex systems with many degrees of freedom and their own frequencies associated with the respective mode shapes in which they naturally vibrate. These frequencies are inversely related to the mass and directly related to the stiffness of the structure. Thus, through numerical modeling using the Finite Element Method, the present article aims to list some of the main factors that can affect the prediction of the natural frequency of a real-scale wind turbine prototype and to evaluate its dynamic behavior, considering its rotor revolution frequency, its blade passing frequency and the wind characteristics of its operating area. Abstract Objective To evaluate the postoperative functional and radiographic outcomes of the shoulder of patients submitted to transosseous suturing of a greater tuberosity fracture (GTF) through an anterolateral route and the influence of the glenohumeral dislocation on these outcomes. Methods We conducted a retrospective study and functional assessment using the Constant-Murley score. The distance between the greater tuberosity and the joint surface of the proximal humerus (in true anteroposterior radiographs) after the union was calculated. We used the Fisher exact test for the categorical independent variables, and the Student t or Mann-Whitney test for the non-categorical variables. Results In total, 26 patients met the inclusion criteria, and 38% of the sample presented an association between glenohumeral dislocation and GTF. The mean Constant-Murley score was of 82.5 + 8.02 points. The presence of an associated dislocation did not alter the functional outcome. The mean distance between the greater tuberosity of the humerus and the joint surface of the humeral head after the union was of 9 + 4.3 mm below the articular line of the humeral head. The dislocation led to a lower level of reduction, but this did not influence the Constant-Murley score. Conclusion The cases of GTF submitted to surgical treatment with transosseous sutures had good functional outcomes. The presence of dislocation made the anatomical reduction of the greater tuberosity difficult. However, it did not influence the Constant-Murley score.

Resumo Objetivo Avaliar os resultados funcional e radiográfico pós-operatórios do ombro, em pacientes submetidos a sutura transóssea de fratura da tuberosidade maior (FTM) por acesso anterolateral, e a influência da luxação glenoumeral nesses resultados. Métodos Realizou-se estudo retrospectivo e avaliação funcional (pela escala de Constant-Murley). Calculou-se a distância entre a tuberosidade maior e a superfície articular do úmero proximal (por meio de radiografia em incidência anteroposterior verdadeira) após a consolidação. Usou-se o teste Exato de Fisher para as variáveis independentes categóricas, e os testes tde Student ou de Mann-Whitney para as não categóricas. Resultados Ao todo, 26 pacientes preencheram os critérios de inclusão. A associação de luxação glenoumeral com FTM foi observada em 38% da amostra. A média da pontuação na escala de Constant-Murley foi de 82,5 + 8,02. A presença de luxação associada não alterou o resultado funcional. A distância média da consolidação da tuberosidade maior do úmero em relação à superfície articular da cabeça umeral foi de 9 + 4,3 mm abaixo da linha articular da cabeça umeral. Pacientes com luxação associada evoluíram com redução menor, mas isso não influenciou na pontuação na escala de Constant-Murley. Conclusão As FTMs submetidas ao tratamento cirúrgico com sutura transóssea evoluíram com bom resultado funcional. A presença de luxação dificultou a redução anatômica da tuberosidade maior. Entretanto, isso não influenciou na pontuação na escala de Constant-Murley.

Abstract In this case study of a soil nail retaining wall, the measured horizontal displacement is of the order of 0.023% H, where H is the excavation depth, while the two-dimensional Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis suggests horizontal displacements of the order of at least 0.5% H. This study aims to understand which parameters influence such displacements through a Sensitivity Analysis. In addition, the study compares results obtained through two-dimensional and three-dimensional FEM analyses for this case. It concludes that Young's Modulus (E) and the in-situ earth pressure coefficient (K0) are the two parameters that most influence such displacements. This study shows that Mohr Coulomb's perfectly plastic Elastic Constitutive Model is unsuitable for simulating this structure, which had minimal displacements in situ, suggesting the Hardening Soil model (Schanz et al., 1999) as a viable alternative. Compared to 3D analysis, 2D analysis showed significantly larger horizontal displacements. This led to the conclusion that 2D analysis in MEF is unsuitable for predicting lateral displacements unless a Reduction Factor (FR) ranging from 0.4 to 1.0 was applied.

ABSTRACT Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the oral health condition and dental treatments performed in patients in pre-allogeneic HCT. Method: The records of patients treated during 2018 at a Brazilian HCT service were reviewed. The following oral health data were obtained: 1. Decayed, missing and filled teeth / correlated index for primary dentition (DMFT/dmft); 2. Quality of oral hygiene and 3. Dental pathologies: 3.1 Periodontal infectious focus, 3.2 Endodontic infectious focus and 3.3 Carie incidence. All dental procedures performed were surveyed. Results: Thirty-three patients were included, with a mean age of 28.42 (±16.37), 20 male (60%) and 13 female. The average DMFT/dmft found in this study was 10.24 (± 8.37), similar to the index found in the population in southeastern Brazil. The younger study population presented a DMFT/dmft considered high, when compared to the general population. A total of 27.2% of the patients had active caries lesions, 33.3%, foci of periodontal infection, 15.1%, endodontic infectious focus and 40%, poor oral hygiene. Almost half of the patients (48.4%) had to undergo dental intervention, 24.2% needing periodontal scaling, 21.2%, fillings and 12.1%, tooth extractions. Conclusion: We conclude that the studied population had an important incidence of dental pathologies and infectious conditions that could complicate throughout HCT, especially in younger patients, therefore presenting a high demand for dental treatment in the pre-HCT. Studies that assess the impact of dental conditioning on the outcomes of HCT with an emphasis on dental infectious complications, days of hospitalization and survival are necessary.”

Abstract This paper provides preliminary results on geothermal energy piles (GEPs) for the thermal climatization of structures founded on the typical tropical unsaturated soil of the central region of Brazil. The research employed a series of prototype simulations of a thermal pile embedded into a calibration chamber with compacted unsaturated soil. It closely simulates the behavior of a (prototype) section from real scale GEPs founded in the geotechnical media of the region, in terms of compactness, mineralogy, water content and thermal variables. One of the on-going thermal tests was numerically simulated with a Multiphysics commercial software to calibrate a model and expand the results to possible scenarios of distinct (laboratory) GEP performance. The analyses will base future simulations of typical foundation layouts for large-scale structures founded on tropical soils of the region to verify the thermal energy efficiency under average operational conditions. Besides the known limitations of this research, still at early stage, an initial assessment was achieved to design shallow geothermal systems for local conditions.

Abstract There are an increasing number of studies that use the artificial neural networks (ANN) as a prediction tool in the field of foundations with satisfactory results. In this paper, multilayer perceptrons are used to develop prediction models for the shaft and tip bearing capacities of single piles based on a supervised training using the error back propagation algorithm. Results from static load tests carried out on 95 instrumented single piles executed in different regions of Brazil were used in the ANN modelling. The prediction models of shaft and tip bearing capacities of single piles were obtained portraying indicated in the validation phase determination coefficients equal to 95% and 99%, respectively. To demonstrate their applicability and efficiency, such models were used to estimate the bearing capacity of single piles unused in the models’ development, as well as groups of two and three piles. The results demonstrated that the neuron models were much closer to the values of the bearing capacities measured in single pile tests and groups of piles, than the estimated results using semi-empirical methods. As a result of overestimating the predicted bearing capacities in relation to the results of the load tests, it is recommended to use models applying reduction factors of 0.88 for single piles, and 0.75 for groups of up to three piles.

Abstract The Expander Body pile (EB) is a combination of a cast-in-situ pile method with an inflated, pump-grouted tip. The EB system's pioneering conjunction with the conventional drilling pile technique has improved work load, foundation security, cost reductions and abrupt displacements in lateritic, porous, unsaturated soils. The aim of this article is to analyze settlement estimates of bored piles equipped with the Expander Body System on tropical lateritic soil, using a deformability modulus obtained from laboratory and field tests. The piles were subjected to compression and uplift load tests. In addition, the estimates of the pile settlement are compared with the measured values, and the findings are discussed. The results strongly support that PMT and SPT tests present the optimal ratios between the measured and estimated settlements for both bored piles and bored piles with the Expander Body System. It can also be observed that CPT tests presented reasonable estimates for tensioned piles. Ultimately, it is verified that straightforward elastic models for the settlement assessment of bored piles can be used reliably in practice for piles equipped with the Expander Body System on tropical unsaturated soils.

ABSTRACT This paper presents an experimental study, which compares the effect of the sensitivity against the cementation in the recovering of the stress-strain properties in clayey soils from "Sabana de Bogotá". The work methodology included three phases: (i) extraction of samples; (ii) properties assessment of the undisturbed samples; and (ii) stabilization and analysis of the resistance of the stabilized samples with cemented materials. An experimental plan, which included physical and mechanical tests, was developed. The plan had an emphasis on the assessment of the undrained shear strength and the elastic modulus through unconfined compression tests. The samples were compacted and stabilized with the addition of two solid chemical products, calcium carbonate and iron oxide. Results between natural, remoulded and stabilized were compared by means of statistical methods. Therefore, it was found that the use of iron oxide in this kind of soil allows obtaining stress-strain parameters close to the undisturbed state after the compaction process.

RESUMEN En este artículo se presenta un estudio experimental que compara el efecto de la sensitividad contra el de la cementación, en la recuperación de las propiedades esfuerzo deformación en suelos arcillosos de la Sabana de Bogotá. La metodología de trabajo incluyó tres fases: (i) extracción de muestras; (ii) evaluación de las propiedades de los suelos en estado inalterado; y (iii) estabilización y análisis de resistencia de dichas muestras modificados materiales cementantes. Las muestras de suelo fueron tomadas en el municipio de Madrid (Cundinamarca, Colombia). Se desarrolló un plan experimental que incluyó ensayos de caracterización física y mecánica. En dicho plan se hizo énfasis en la evaluación de la resistencia al corte no drenada y los parámetros elásticos mediante ensayos de compresión inconfinada. Los suelos fueron compactados y estabilizados mediante la adición de dos productos químicos sólidos, carbonato de calcio y óxido de hierro. Los resultados entre las muestras naturales, remoldeadas y mejoradas fueron comparados mediante técnicas de análisis estadístico. De esta manera, se encontró que la implementación del óxido de hierro en este tipo de suelos permite obtener parámetros esfuerzo-deformación cercanos a los del estado inalterado después del proceso de remoldeo.

ABSTRACT Chimeric antigen receptor T cells (CAR-T), especially against CD19 marker, present in lymphomas and acute B leukemia, enabled a revolution in the treatment of hematologic neoplastic diseases. The manufacture of CAR-T cells requires the adoption of GMP-compatible methods and it demands the collection of mononuclear cells from the patient (or from the donor), generally through the apheresis procedure, T cell selection, activation, transduction and expansion ex vivo, and finally storage, usually cryopreserved, until the moment of their use. An important aspect is the quality control testing of the final product, for example, the characterization of its identity and purity, tests to detect any contamination by microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, and mycoplasma) and its potency. The product thawing and intravenous infusion do not differ much from what is established for the hematopoietic progenitor cell product. After infusion, it is important to check for the presence and concentration of CAR-T cells in the patient’s peripheral blood, as well as to monitor their clinical impact, for instance, the occurrence of short-term, such as cytokine release syndrome and neurological complications, and long-term complications, which require patient follow-up for many years.

At the same time, CAR-T cell therapy is associated with unique and potentially fatal toxicities, such as cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and neurological toxicities (ICANS). This manuscript aims to provide a consensus of specialists in the fields of Hema- tology Oncology and Cellular Therapy to make recommendations on the current scenario of the use of CAR-T cells in patients with ALL.

ABSTRACT Chimeric antigen receptor T-cells (CAR-T cells) are a new modality of oncological treatment which has demonstrated impressive response in refractory or relapsed diseases, such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), lymphomas, and myeloma but is also associated with unique and potentially life-threatening toxicities. The most common adverse events (AEs) include cytokine release syndrome (CRS), neurological toxicities, such as the immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS), cytopenias, infections, and hypogammaglobulinemia. These may be severe and require admission of the patient to an intensive care unit. However, these AEs are manageable when recognized early and treated by a duly trained team. The objective of this article is to report a consensus compiled by specialists in the fields of oncohematology, bone marrow transplantation, and cellular therapy describing recommendations on the Clinical Centers preparation, training of teams that will use CAR-T cells, and leading clinical questions as to their use and the management of potential complications.

ABSTRACT The treatment and evolution of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B-NHL) has undergone important changes in the last years with the emergence of targeted therapies, such as monoclonal antibodies, small molecules, antibody-drug conjugates, and bispecific antibodies. Nevertheless, a significant portion of patients remains refractory or relapsed (R/R) to the new therapeutic modalities, representing thus an unmet medical need. The use of CAR-T cells for the treatment of B-NHL patients has shown to be a promising therapy with impressive results in patients with R/R disease. The expectations are as high as the imminent approval of CAR-T cell therapy in Brazil, which it is expected to impact the prognosis of R/R B-NHL. The aim of this manuscript is to offer a consensus of specialists in the field of onco-hematology and cellular therapy, working in Brazil and United States, in order to discuss and offer recommendations in the present setting of the use of CAR-T cells for patients with B-NHL.
